Guages - Need Advice

Hey folks. Me again. I would like to thank everyone for all the advice so far. I am making very good progress.

Now to the new question. My Spedo is on the blink and I need to replace it. I currently have guages for Spedo, Tach, Oil Pressure, Fuel, Amp and Temp. They are all individual guages, all aftermarket and consist of three different brands and styles. It is annoying they don't match.

So, since I need to replace it, I thought I would replace them all and get matching guages. My question is what type of guages do I need? I looked at the autometer site and they have a lot of different types. Electric, Mechanical, Digital, etc. Also, can I replace the guages only or do I have to get sensors also? If I have to get sensors, I will probably just replace the Spedo and live with it.

Most of the aftermarket gauges will come with new sensors. Mech. VS Elec. both have benefits that have been discused here a good bit. Personally I like elec. over mech. due to the fact of only having to run wires in the cab, and no oil pres. line.

 

Autometer makes a good gauge. I originally wanted Stewart Warner but I had some problems with their voltmeter and mechanical oil pressure gauges, so I refitted with Autometer. Great traditional look and very accurate. If you do want S/W find some of the older gauges on E-Bay, etc. They are much better quality than the new ones......

My preferences are :

Voltmeter...................electrical
Temp gauge................mechanical
Oil pressure gauge........mechanical
