My '73 CJ5 does not have a parking brake and ALL of the parking brake components have been removed by the PO. Putting it all together looks to be VERY difficult, costly and time consuming. I am looking for other options. A mico brake looks easy but not super reliable as a full on parking brake. I have read about transfer case parking brakes. Look to be popular on Yota Cruisers when they do disc brake conversions. I know some older Jeeps used this also. Anyone sell a tcase brake for a CJ5? Anyone do this or know someone that did?

    Try Herm. From his site.

"All parts available for transfer-case mounted parking brakes. The brake assembly includes a turned drum, new bonded shoes and backing plate components for $65 exchange or $95 outright. The new shoes are arced for 100% contact with the drum surface. Call for a price on cable, handle or other components."

JMO - unless your Jeep has been converted to 4 wheel disks, I think it would be easiest to put the cable brake back on the rear wheels. Certainly cheaper. 11" bendix brakes were common, so you should be able to source the parts easily.

The LCs with TC brakes are a disk brake of some kind - the drum hand brake above came with the Dana 18 TC, although some were fitted to the Dana 20 I think (earliest J-trucks?). They have a reputation of being ineffective - I think it's mostly becasue the linings get soaked by gear oil from the perpetually leaky TCs. The umbrella handle brakes that I remember take a lot of strength to set ... maybe it would be ok if in new condition.
