I decided there was going to be too much going on " out back " to open the tailgate so I came up with this mess. Holds the spare, provides a rack, and a place for gas can, straps etc. As they say, " Crude but effective "

Heck I see no problem with that. I like the use of the hood latches.

How did you hinge the lid of the basket?

Very nice.. and great placement of the ammo cans on either side!!

I also like your licence plate location... good and protected (mine occationally tears off)

That is a great setup. How is it attached to your Jeep?

I bolted the tailgate shut and just bolted the rack through the tailgate. I added a couple of struts angled down to the top of the bumper for a little additional support. No problems so far.

My tail gate has about 100 holes in it and the now one of the hinge pins dissapeared. I am pretty sure I am going to bolt it on up now that I see yours and what you got hanging.

I think bolting the tailgate shut is a good idea. Keeping the tailgate functioning means I need some sort of swing which really adds some complication and headaches to the mix. Thanks for the pics.

Just a thought... take the tail gate off and extend the trunk area with plate steel or such. I've also been considering looking into shortening the fender humps to get more cargo area, it doesn't look like the wheels will go that fart up into the wells anyway.

Look at the CJ3B site at the extended trunk 3B with teardrop trailer. Looks pretty cool. It was done in the 50s and the owners son is restoring it.
