Quick question, as you can see from the pic, I have 'resonators' attached to the headers and they dump in front of the rear wheels.
I'm wondering how much back pressure this motor wants, to run smoothly. I'm looking at installing FlowMaster 50 series DeltaFlows, and running them out back, if needed. My main desire is to get best performance, and to hear the new radio Momma and the boys gave me. Oh, and I would like to get within a mile of an elk before it hears me!:)
(But it sure is fun sitting next to a little import with their 'Bad Bass' thumping, and their window open, and punching it. My exhaust points right in their window. Shame on me!!! R) )

Flowmasters aren't gonna hurt you at all. It'll quiet it down using a 50 series all right. Should sound nice.

Ya, it should quiet it down, especially inside. At least as much as a soft top can be quieted! I need a tune up badly, it's back-firing through the carb when cold, and when I stomp on it (even when warmed up), so should I replace the mufflers before the tune up, or does it really matter? (Thinking of increased back pressure with the 50 series vs flow-thru resonators w/no back pressure).

My 50 series exit in front of the rear wheel. I can still hear the other Jeep noises over the exhaust rumble, till I step on it. Doubt if it'll matter to a tuneup.

I doubt that will have much effect on the tuneup. But I might wait anyway.

Thanks SwampRatt. With dual resonators exiting on either side of the Jeep, quiet is not in my current vocabulary! So reducing it to a rumble would be better than asprin for my sound induced headache. Now I guess I'll flip a coin and see which I do first... tune up or mufflers (I know, do the tune up first! LOL) BTW, I have a Edelbrock Performer intake, Edelbrock [1406?] 650cfm/electric choke, stock points, Jacobs high volt coil, etc., anybody got a suggestion on my back firing? (short of going HEI?) Seems to run rich too, you can smell the gas in the exhaust. The PO was very knowlegable on the building of the Jeep, but wasn't too sharp on tuning it... told me "It's close and it runs OK". Oh, well...

Uh... wait on the mufflers? Or get the mufflers and then tune up?
My brain just went on holiday.

Thanks Tumbleweed, I'll check out the petronics now. Don't bother me to go back to a stock coil, the wiring and such was a hack job once I got into it, so I'm not 100% sure that the coil is even matched to the rest of the ignition system.

Get it tuned up with the correct components, THEN worry about the exhaust IMHO. The exhaust will help with the performance, but only after everything else is otay. YMMV. :D
