Well, if necessity is the mother of invention, being flat-@$$ broke is the father. I was short on cash for materials, but I needed some way of transporting 20' sticks of metal on my truck without strapping it to the top of the cab. After some scrounging, I found enough material already in my possession to come up with this. (I've since added hooks for straps...) At first, I wanted a full ladder rack, but then it would be on the truck more or less permanently, so this was a better choice as it only needed to be on the truck "sometimes".

And yes, the door opens and closes with that brace there.

    Thanks Jim!

Believe me, it's not from lack of trying. :D

I've already done a couple of deck railings and assorted things. Got 400' worth of 12' fencing sections I may be bidding on here soon. It *may* be my ticket to a MUCH better welder than what I have now if it pays right.
(gotta spend it to make it sometimes....)

Very nice. I wouldn't put too much weight up there but it ought to be good for a few a sticks anyway. I'd like something like that for my little 5 1/2' bed for carrying interior trim pieces without breaking out the trailer.
