I'm wondering if it is possible to switch the internals of the dana 18 tranfer case into the dana 20 case.

If it is possible then would i be able to run an overdrive on it. I want an overdrive on my 72 CJ5, and don't want to change axles to accomidate the offset Dana 18.

Any insite of this would be a lot of help.

In a word, no. The overdrive for the Dana 18 depends on the offset driveshafts to provide a place for the overdrive. Look at the installation more closely and you'll understand. There are some pictures of the installed overdrive on Herm's site.

Why do you think you need an overdrive? The axle ratios in a '72 are fine for the street.
