Restoring M38 and when shackles were removed had to use heat which destroyed bushing and metal retainer cup on C-Shackle. Hard to find without buying new shackles. Was told I could cut down shock bushing and use that as a replacement along with the retainer cup. Has anyone tried this and agree with this as a way of replacing bushings ?

New C-Shackles are relatively cheap, I'd go ahead and replace everything while you are at it. Not sure what you mean about cutting down a shock bushing, the stock units were threaded steel and you turned them into the spring eye with a wrench...

Was given that answer by a supplier that was out of the bushings. Does thread into the spring but there is a rubber bushing that sits in a cup and up against the stop of the shackle. Hope that gives a better discription.

the caps and seals were available seperately
    p/n A-515 for the seal
    p/n A-1252 for the retainers
