Heya guys. Had a quick question about changing the oil in my AMC 360. Figured I'd be a man about it this time around and change the oil myself. Can anyone tell me how many quarts the 360 uses? I've Googled and looked in my Hane's manual but didn't come across the oil capacity for the 360.

I'll take a guess at 5 quarts.....? It seems most engines used 5 quarts in these years..... I'm learning so I may be wrong.....

Start with 4 and go from there. Easier to add oil than remove oil. Thinking 5 qts sounds right though.

Unless your 360 has an after market oil pan, the 360's oil pan should hold four (4) quarts and the oil filter housing should hold one (1) quart. Again... Please ensure the vehicle is on a "level" surface, add four quarts to the engine and check the actual quanity with the dip stick before adding the last quart. Run the engine for a few minutes, then fill the engine to the level (check the dip stick) between the half and full mark to be safe.

It is better to run the engine a half a quart... even one quart low!!
Than to run an engine with even a half quart over full. You can damage seals when running an engine over full!

The above advice from the previous reply is so correct... it is a pain to lower the oil level after over filling, unless you have a siphon unit! My Mercedes S-420's V8 is a 4.2 L and holds eight and one half quarts... I use a siphon to complete oil service every other time due to the protective covers needing to remove when draining from below. I really enjoy working on my Jeep rather than the other vehicles!

Hope this helps with that 360! Happy Mudding! And keep that dirty side down!

You’ll find it in your Haynes manual chapter 1 page 2.

Awesome thanks for all the input guys. As pointed out I'd rather run too little than too much oil:beer:
