Heya fellas. I had a quick question about my fiberglass fenders. Tore the old metal ones off today in preparation for installation of the fiberglass ones.

I had to disconnect the solenoid from the fender and naturally the jeep wouldn't start with the solenoid just sitting there in the air so I had to roll it into the garage.

I'm no genius at electrical stuff, so my question is does the solenoid have to be grounded to a metal surface(ie metal fenders) and if so, where would a good place be to mount it with the addition of my fiberglass fenders?

Yes, the solenoid must be grounded. No need to move it from the fender - just run a wire from one of the mounting bolts to a convenient ground, like the firewall or the engine block.

That exact situation happened to me when we rebuilt. Couldn't figure out what was wrong when she wasn't starting. Sure enough, solenoid needed to be grounded.

Same thing on the other fender, not sure what year you have but the voltage regulator on my drivers side needed to be grounded too.
