Aren't there NDT's and NDCC's? Seems like on the NDT's the ends of the lugs are square shaped, and on the NDCC's the ends of the lugs are more rounded. I've had a serious hankerin' to put NDT's on my '56, but I've heard a lot about how they're bad news on wet or slick pavement. I'm kinda leaning towards CO-OP Grip Spurs, but they're $150 each and hard to find. I've heard they're great tires though, and I think you could consider them "period correct". Purty close, anyway.

CO-OP Grip Spur, 7.50x16....look how deep that tread is!

Yeah, a couple of guys here have had the same misfortune, and I've had one blow apart in the cage... dented 2" DOM tubing no less. Split rims are nasty, even when they go together like they should.

I'm not too familiar, but it sounds like the GPW/MB wheels are the bolt type, and then there's two-piece, three-piece, and actual split rims, where they break in the center. The latter is the worst.

Yeah, those are fun... but if you want big, order the 9.00-16's. You'll need an 8" wide rim though.

I have been looking into changing my tires on the 1955 over to the original military tread. But unfortunately, nobody has them tubeless, but the tire tread Ron has looks military enough. If anybody knows a supplier of tubeless 15 inch (military style). I don't know the name of the tire. I would appreciate knowing where to get them

in the desert and aggressive tread really doesn't help much, because the dirt is like concrete. I would be doing it strictly for looks.

What Rondog is showing is a Co-Op tire, which here in VA is carried by the Virginia Farm Bureau, along with the Southern States stores I believe... You might start askin' around home who carries it.

This guy is in Yuma, he has brand-new NDT's and NDCC's mounted on repro wheels, ready to go as sets. But, they're not cheap, and I hear he's a real a-hole to deal with. http://www.willysjeepparts.com/index.htm

You might look around for a large tire distributor that specializes in truck tires, they might have them in stock. Here in Denver, I know of a large distributor like that that has them in stock, but the price depends on which salesman you talk to, commission driven you know.

I found Firestone 7.00x16 NDT's on the Coker Tire website for $89 apiece, I think, and I went to my local Discount Tire store and asked about them. He said he could get them too, and said he could give me the same price, so that's another option. Discount Tire stores usually have a siping machine, so you can get your new NDT's siped at the same time for about $8-10 apiece.

It looks very similar to a tire sold out here by jack furrier Western tire centers, called the groundhog. But I am looking for a skinnier tire. I had groundhogs on my Chevy C-10 4x and you could hear them coming a mile away. I have done some checking. But I would really like the military style

I have heard there is a guy in Yuma. That is extremely rude and unhelpful
I've even heard his employees are no better and since Yuma is a small place
I'm sure were talking about the same supplier. Would be my last resort, you wouldn't know if he had a website. So I could take a look at his stuff without having to deal with them.

This is the Firestone 7.00x16 off the Coker website. Like I said, Discount Tire said he could get them for me for the same price, but I don't think they can be ran tubeless. Nothing wrong with running tubes, IMHO.

Definitely will check out discount tire. I have one eight minutes from my house. I believe it was Firestone, just around the corner. That said they didn't exist

Wallace Wade has the NDT tires. Both plain and Firestone branded. Specialty Tires of America is the manufacturer (Formerly McCreary) Should be able to get their # off the 'net. They advertise in the back of Military Vehicles Magazine. They have 6.00, 7.00, and 7.5 NDT sizes as well as the 9.00. Figure $60-$75 depending on which one of the 3 smaller ones you get.
I plan to run the 9.00 on my M38A1 with 3" lift and aftermarket rims.

RAPCO out of Bowie TX has 16" rims on sale right now, $59 each. By far the best price I have found.

FWIW, I got a set of (4) 16" early CJ rims off Craig's List last week for $40. Smokin'!

I have a late-model Ford F-350 diesel duly flatbed that I am trying to sell
this is what is holding up my project. If I start shopping around and find a steal, and don't have the money. Well let's just say it wouldn't be good
but when it sells. I'm going to go crazy, new transmission, tires, windshield, seats, dashboard, gauges and probably some other things.

You guys are scareing me with the split rim stuff - that only applies to the military bolt together rims right? or are my 15" stock rims "split?"

Also, from what I've been told, one side of the rim is slightly smaller than the other - allowing the tire to go on and off that side. Is this true, if so, which side is it. the inside or outside.

The split rim issue doesn't really apply to one piece wheels like stock CJ wheels or to the bolt together combat wheels. Really no issues there. The problematic split rims have a ring that holds the wheel together and that ring if not seated absolutely correct has a nasty habit of blowing off when inflating the tire to seat the bead. That's why they have to be done in a cage. Done some myself and NEVER felt good about it. I won't handle them at all any more, just too dangerous IMHO. Nickmil

I had a 54 IHC 3/4 ton pickup until a couple of years ago. It had split rims. I could not find a tire shop around my little town to mount the new tires, and had to go to a farm tire shop. I didn't even like topping them up with air at a station......

A tubeless 11R22.5 at 100 psi or a tube type 10.00R20 split rim at 100 psi has enough force that if it could be channeled it would lift a fully loaded semi tractor and trailer over a foot off the ground, or shoot a 16lb bowling ball over a mile away.......

Split rims aren't too bad as long as you're extremely careful....the ones that are truly bad are the old 20" "widowmaker" split rims found on alot of the late 50's and early 60's large trucks. They don't have what would be considered a split edge.....2 solid halves that interlock together in the center, or one solid rim with a solid lip/lockring that must be positioned correctly and forced over the edge of the main rim, then centered and inflated.....

    Now THOSE can get interesting.....

Most places tell customers that those are illegal to run on the road, just so they don't have to deal with them, since they either A. don't want the liability, or B. don't have a person knowledgeable or competent enough to do them......

We do all types of split rims, but the widowmakers I normally do myself, since I'm the only one experienced, stupid, or insane enough to assemble and inflate them....R)

My IHC pickup had a set like the second one you mentioned, in 16". I remember the old tire guy who mounted them laughly calling them widow makers and showed me a very dented tire cage where a few had come apart.
