As mentioned, you can put the sensor anywhere there's voltage. There are those who believe that putting it further away from the alt. will allow the regulator to do it's job better by sensing what the voltage is on down the line rather than right out of the + post. In other words, you may have 12v coming out of the + post, but only have 10v at the ignition due to wire length, poor connections etc.

Here you go. I just did the one wire upgrade last week. Thanks to Billy. Works flawlessly. I used the Willy's Works bracket and pulley. These images I got from Billy:

Thanks Panzer/Billy, I added those to the picture bank as well. Hope that's ok.

I assume the pulley kit is a wide sheave set to match the width of the W/P and crank pulleys??

I just finished up a 1 wire alt/12v conversion on my '57. It's great! It was pretty easy to do, only catch was that I had to "excite" the alternator to get it to start charging, but after that it's been driving around great!

It's really nice to do away with all the wires and external voltage regulator that was with the old 6v generator setup, not to mention it's a good bit more reliable--and I can hook up my CB finally haha.

Here's 2 pics of the upgrade from last night. I took a sawzall to the angle bracket and turned it into a straight bracket. It looked pretty damn good if you ask me...R) Anyway, fired it up and it was charging at 14.85volts. Went on a test drive after dark and the fuse on the HL switch popped. ................I drove home by moonlight.
