Sears has one that does dwell, tach and volts for $29. seems like a good price.

I mainly use mine for adjusting the carburetor, much easier than running back and forth to the dash tach and looking. ;)

If Sears has it, then K-mart should (with a little luck) Sears owns K-mart.

You might also try adjusting the timing a couple of degrees in either direction... I've never had any luck setting it by the book. I used to try to use the light and the book, but my rigs never seemed to run right when I did. When the light died, I just chucked it and never got another one. I've had much better luck just setting the timing by ear and taking it for a test drive. YMMV of course...that's just been my experience. Could be my altitude, I don't know.

I've looked at everything I need to get done and I've admitted defeat. I need to pack up everything, take one more final and do a final presentation before Monday. Oh, and tow off my wrecked XJ.

I called a place a mile away and they'll redo my timing for $40 to $80 depending on if they need to open up the distributor.

$40-$80 to set the dwell?

Good grief, it took me three minutes last time I did it on a V6.

I'm not sure it's the dwell, that's just what I assume right now. That quote was to do the timing on it. At this point trying to do it myself is just too rough. I don't have an afternoon to spend on it anymore.

:( Wish I were closer, if all you did was mess with the timing it can't take that long to fix.

We redid the whole ignition so I know it's something that somebody with some experience could fix quickly. I just can't get everything done in time. If we miss our flight I will be officially shot by my fiance and she may get 'anti-jeep' on me.

If your disposable income is low this would be a better alternative than paying someone $40-80.00 to set your timing and check the dwell. Just my .02 worth.

I understand. Sucks. I can drive to Lawrence, but it's alot closer than Arizona is. :(

Good luck with it. It shouldn't be too expensive to fix it.
