    jpflat2a what's that noise?

    I agree.
no use carrying the extra weight all the time unless you have to.

    Ok good advise.....thanks guys

I finished painting the racks and decided to start the cb install. My old cb never worked right so after searching here for which to buy and how to mount I went to work. I had some aluminum left over from the half door job so I cut it to fit between the spreaders. After mounting that I zip tied the padding back on and mounted the cb. I purchased the Uniden PRO510XL. Just need to finish wiring it up then I'll tune it with a SWR meter I borrowed from a buddy

Like Patricks install I'll have room for a dome light and a auxiliary cb speaker :)

Wow! I have been slowly working my way thru the vastness of information on this site, and just read your build-up. Quite a deal, way to go. Your energy on the project is something to shoot for.

getting ready for a jeep trip on wednesday, gonna be hot during the day and cold at night so I decided to put some carpet up front. This was a 5'x7' area rug that I cut to fit
    [IMG]
6 screws and I can pull it out for moisture control......will be changing this to a more permanent carpet later on

after the Mojave Road trip it became obvious I needed to do something about the tires rubbing the shocks, the solution was to move the shock mounts back toward the center of the axle for clearance. I got that all wrapped up but it created another problem.....there was no longer room for the Napa overflow bottle anymore :(. After reading someones thread about using a beer can for that service I was struck with a idea. I used a bike bottle holder and bike bottle
    [IMG]
the holder grabs the bottle but you can still pull the bottle easily to service. I cut the top nozzle off and ran the tube to the bottom of the bottle
    [IMG]
you can see how tight the fit is, but still accessible for fill or clean
    [IMG]
these holders work great on the down tubes of my rollcage for sodas, water, or whatever else your drinking

I love it! I think this would actually work better than the bottle I bought from Summit that came with no tube going to the bottom.
I tried to rig up a down tube, but it doesn't siphon back properly. Maybe this is the ticket.

by moving the shock towers up front to eliminate shock/tire rub I created another problem......it shortened the shock travel and created a situation where the shock could bottom out and bend the shock or mount. I talked to sdcj6 (Ray) and decided the best solution was to weld shock mounts to the axle.
this is the bottom mount I had been using after flipping the u-bolts
    [IMG]
I had the cut offs from the rear bumper I built, it's 3/16"material so decided to use them
    [IMG]
I cut them down and shaped them to fit the axle
    [IMG]
I had to remove some material below the shock mount hole for shock clearance, but it seems to work well
    [IMG]
I now can put longer shocks on to give me more articulation.......
welding this was a pain, I suck at welding but think it'll hold up.....guess I'll find out :rofl:
hope ya'll aren't getting tired of this endless build, I just hope by posting someone can learn from my many mistakes and avoid them on they're rigs

    Jim,
Keep posting. I'm learning a lot from reading these threads. You have given me some ideas already.

preface this post by saying I should listen to jpflat2a (Jim) when he says " do it once do it right"
I worked the last few days on finishing the front shock mounts. The upper units I had bolted on months ago were from a F350....problem with them was they stick to far away from the frame causing the shocks to angle away at the top.....you can kinda see it in this pic, real pronounced from the front
    [IMG]
I used some 3/8" plate I had to fab up some new mounts....used a torch to heat and bend to match the inner fender well
    [IMG]
you can see the difference in this shot, F350 mount on the bottom, my fab on the top.....about 1 1/2" difference
    [IMG]
I welded them to the frame and filled the old cutouts in the fender well with some sheet metal...sorry bout the crappy cell pics
    [IMG]
end result is the shock is level from top to bottom now, it's centered up and down so I have equal travel extended and contracted, and it's centered over the axle so no chance of tire rub........after 3 reworks I have it right :oops::rofl:......I really do listen jp, just don't hear all the time
    Jim

one of the problems with owning a cj6 is much of the aftermarket is geared toward cj5's. The last outing we took we had several problems (snow then sun/heat) because our bikini top was to short to cover the whole jeep.
A member gave me a extra bikini top and after a lot of measurements a friend sewed the two together to give me a very nice safari top
there's straps sewn where the middle cage riser is to give me a means to tension the whole top......came out very nice

Looks good but next time just build a Jeep that fits the top, not the other way around.
