clutch problems and engine runs good

got the :v6: running smooth today
some kind of smoke is comming from the passenger side of the engine near the firewall when it gets up to temp. The smoke dosent smell of oil but maybe just the years of dirt on the manifold
The valve cover bolts were a bit loose so i tightned them
dont have a radiator so i have a hose going to the water intake to keep it cool but it makes a big mess
The antifreeze was spraying on that section of the engine but moved it so it sprays to the front engine so hopefully its just that burning off
Tried to start it in gear though the previous owner said it mite have a clutch problem, well
pushed the clutch in and it jumped back and rolled in the 59,
no damaged done
I checked the linkage and made adjustments but cant get the linkage to move far enough to engage the clutch
any ideas? or is it something internal
