I have a 1969 commando that was pulled out of a demolition derby but was still in running condition. After sitting in my back yard for a year, practicly every thing is rusted except for a few parts and most of the body. the engine is a jeep vauntless v6 that needs some major cleaning. the left exaust manifold came of a different engine and was force fitted onto this one. Now it's bolts are rusted to it and won't come off no matter what I put on it. Any ideas would be very helpful, thanks.

I've had good luck with ZEP Twister and PB Blaster. Spray them daily for a week or so. If that doesn't work, I'd say it's time to start putting heat to them to try to break them free.

I use GM Heatvalve Lubricant. It's a step up from Kroil which is pretty good stuff. The dealership where I get the stuff calls it the spray from God!

If you have an impact driver with a big phillips bit that works. You can pick them up at Harbourfreight pretty cheap or maybe Advance or one of the parts stores. And lots of penetrating fluid whatever kind you happen to have. If the rockers are rotted you should be able to get up in there from underneath and spray the back of the screws. I've drilled them out too using a 3/8th or a larger bit, they're pretty soft metal.

Thanks, I don't have a compresser, but my dad had this realy big hand held electric that I was using to drill. When it comes to welding I have an arc welder but I need to learn how to use it first.:smash:you know

You can find electric impact drivers fairly inexpensively; no need for the compressor.

Cool, I'll check out the local hard ware store as soon as I can.

If I need to work on the stuff under the body like the trany and engine, would it be better to take off the body, or leave it on(and how do I do it). I also will have to work on the frame 'cause I can look right through it, but for now I'm just worried about getting it in running condition so I can rub it in my friends faces. I also don't have a garage and my shed can only hold the stuff that comes off of it, not the whole jeep, so the body and the rest will be under tarps.

Am I correct in figuring that whoever ran the commando in a "demolition derby" will be doing some time in 7734 for it??!!!!

Well, depending on what "7734" means, it was a legal derby. The bad part is it was an all jeep derby, which is run by my friends uncle.
