I am in the process of converting my 79 CJ-5 to rear disc brakes,I have a waggie 44 up front with all stock brake hardware. The rear is a Scout 44 with 6 lug axles, waggie rotors, waggie calipers, and backing plates. The brakes will stop the jeep but they do not feel all that great.I am running the stock non power brake master cylinder and Know I need to install a adjustable proportioning valve. The question is what master cylinder can I use that will give me good pedal feel and better pressure? I have heard that one for a 69 Camero will work,or a early vette,if that will work or anyone has done this some feedback would be great or part #'s if anyone has got them.

A good alternative would be a booster and MC from a YJ, the later ones are more powerful with the double diaphragm unit. Make sure you grab the bracket and pushrod.

    Here is a write-up

I don't have room for a booster because of the clutch master cylinder,I installed a Wilwood hydraulic clutch master and slave on my jeep. That was a good artical though thanks for the info.:)

You shouldn't need a proportioning valve with 4 wheel discs. They are for rear drum/front disc applications. If you use the non-metallic (organic) brake pads you'll get a little better stopping power. Metallic pads are designed for use with power assist braking systems. Drive it for a few days and them re-bleed the system. You'll probably get a little more air out.
