I couldn't help but notice the minimum fuel octane rating of 68. How do these older engines handle todays lead-free, 87 octane fuel? Do they require rebuilding the head to handle todays gas, or do the owners use a lead substitute added to the gas?

    Re: WW II Reconditioning Program?

:? Not that it's an invalid question, but what does it have to do with remanufacturing Jeeps during WWII?

I'll put it in one of the tech sections when I understand the reason behind this post and know where it should be.

It's no problem, it just really threw me for a loop, it wasn't what I expected to see when I saw the thread finally had another reply. R)

I don't think it matters that much...

Heads can be converted by putting in hardened valve seats. Not that big a deal for a good machine shop. Probably worth the trouble even if you have to pull the head. You might even be able to reuse the old valves. That's one advantage to working on the old iron, easy accessibility. What? Thirty minutes or less to get the head off if you take your time?
