The plot thickens, I haven't had time to pull plugs but I was walking by it and saw it was still dripping so for some reason I reached down and touched the oil. The oil is clean, like straight out of the bottle clean. I'm getting oil out the side where I fill on so I think it was going straight in and straight out. Hmm... I think I'll need to pull off that valve cover.

Definitely do the cheap things first. Have you checked the oil level? As mentioned you really ought to change it and the filter. I believe it takes 5 quarts total. If you think the dipstick might be wrong you can at least make a mark on it that indicates the correct level (a scratch mark). I'd do a test to determine the correct level. Install a new filter, add the proper amount of oil and before you start it check the oil level. Start it and let it run a few minutes. Shut it off and check the oil level. Measure it with a tape or ruler. Let it sit for 10 minutes and then check again. The reading should be a bit higher, but not much. Let it sit another 10 minutes and check again. Shouldn't be any higher this time. This should eliminate any slow draining/returning issues and give you a good level measurement.

I'm starting to think that possibly the drain down to the rest of the engine is clogged. Maybe next weekend I'll get the chance to open everything up.
