during the refurb of my tub I removed what I thought were the factory taillights, flange mount flush 4", only to find that the holes looked as though they were cut with a sawsall. last week I received my new rear body mounts from Classic Enterprises. when I went to try them for fit, I found that the outboard ones had been hacked to mount the taillights. I doubt the factory did that.

so what do stock 1970 CJ5 taillights look like?

Here's mine, but I'm pretty sure mine aren't original either as I haven't seen anyone else with taillights like them. Mine are flush flange mount, but someone did a pretty nice job installing them with the original swing away tire carrier. Actually, the way the tire carrier mount is made, it looks like these lights belong there as the edge of the tire carrier mount is made to fit over the flange. It looks pretty factory to me, but I haven't seen any others like them.

I don't think Jeeps have ever had flush mounted tailights from the factory...

well my memory is not what it used to be, but I seem remember seeing alot of jeeps running around with flush mount taillights in the 70's. that's why I thought they were factory.

Mark, mine were mounted in the same spot

I can tell you right now none of the ones shown are original. I will post a pic of my original lights when I get home from work.

No flush mounted tailights that I ever rember were that way from the factory. Pretty easy to do though and cheaper than the factory unit.

On the Sixty the drivers side is a two screw hall type, and the passenger side is the larger three screw late sixty model. I'll get pictures when I locate my digital camera.:hurrican::coffee:

The mid 70 thru 75 models used these tail lights. I don't know about the housings but the lens are still available from NAPA, I bought new lens about 2 years ago.

I like these rubber ones. They have been on there for 25 years. No rust. I picked them up at NAPA.
