This must have been gone over. I tried to search and went through several pages and couldn't find an answer.

Is it possible to add a Pertronics style ignition and a few aftermarket gauges AND remain 6 Volt. I really want to keep the engine bay stock looking and a modern alt is out of the question.

    Thanks in advance!

You can convert to 12v generator but I don't know if pertronics makes a conversion for your distributor. Others will chime in that will have that info for you.

I should have given a bit more information.

    61 CJ5
    F-134

and Im pretty sure the Distributer is a prestolite.

The rig is about 2.5 hrs away in its safe winter home! I'm just thinking spring!

    EDIT!--------------------

On second thought If i did HAVE to convert to a 12v genarator what years/model should i look for? I think the benifets out weigh the slow starting ect...
    Thanks for the help dudes!

Your '61 should be 12v. already. IIRC '57 ish was the last year for 6v. Not to say it hasn't been changed out. I think all generators of that era were about 35 amps. If you haven't added a ton of electrical loads over stock for they will suffice. I run a 6v starter on my 12v system. Really spins the f-head over. here's agood tech article on converting:http://www.film.queensu.ca/Cj3b/Tech/SixVolt.html
