homemade Rolling engine Dolly?

    Anyone make a homemade rolling engine dolly?

    I was thinking of getting some casters from Harbor friend and using some scrap wood 2x4's to make a little dolly to roll the engine around the garage while i get other stuff squared away....

    anyone make one? pictures?

    I'm thinking of just supporting it from underneath and then adding some supports on the side just to jeep it from rolling.

    thoughts?

    I have seen one mde of metal that did the same thing. Worked great.

    Dang, Howard, thats a nice little unit.
    I'm assuming you have to remove the oil pan to use it???

    hey those are pretty cheap....that might be worth looking into

    i thought they were more like 60-75$

    neat!

    if anyone else made one, please share anyways....I havent ruled it out completely

    Nope, look closely & you can see the front lip of the pan where I pulled the timing gear cover off. In the picture the engine is just sitting on the four posts, the oil pan is actually whats holding the the motor from slipping off the posts. :rofl: These things work fine for storage & minor work but if you're really tearing into your motor I'd seriously recommend a real engine stand.

    Thanks Howard,

    I'm thinking about building one. Only a bit heavier so a guy can do some wrenching and then be able to store/move the engine out of the way while working on other stuff. I've got some reallllly heavvvvvvy duty casters and some short pieces of scrap iron so not much cost involved - just gotta do it...

    I just used a furniture dolly that I had laying around, with some 4x4 scrap wood laid on the sides to help cradle it. I'm not wrenching on it, but it works great for storing my 360 in the meantime.
