I like this little engine it's kind of cool for a 6 banger. What are some good up grades with out going wild and are parts easy to find. Here is pic for good measure. All ready has a 4bbl carb. 400cfm. Other than that I don't know.:D

Why upgrade? The odd-fire is a pretty darned good engine the way it is. The exceptions are usually an HEI or Pertronix to improve reliability and get a hotter spark, and better brakes such as 11" drums or a disc conversion.

As far as performance , there are cams , Intakes, carbs, Fuel injection, Headers, MSD, Hei and other electronic ignitions available. I have a set of ported and polished heads on mine with headers the factory 2bl carb with a Mallory dual point and MSD box. Megasquirt fuel injection can be done but will cost time and money as it is a do it yourself FI. Spare parts for the motors can still be found quite easliy, mine was rebuilt 2 years ago from an Autozone kit.
These motors are quite torquey and are very very capable in stock form.

Mild low end torque type cam (RV) ect. is a good investment.

I would take off the edelbrock and get a Spreadbore.
    IMHO.

A good rebuild, HEI, good 2 barrel ,and the cam, and stock manifolds.
Nobody seems to complaine after that.
Best advice I got was think tractor motor not race car.
Any more than that and I would go to 4.3 vortec.

V8 not needed for normal use jeep.

I have the 2barrel, 252h cam, ported heads and headers on mine. works very well on and off road. the milder you keep the motor, the less stuff you break.

Stock 2G, headers. 252H cam, headers, MSD 6A, and HEI on mine.

    I agree with 66cj5.

Works great for me. Lots of torque. Don't break anything this way either.

If it were me I'd read up on the Holly TA 470 in the forum here and keep the squarebore.

There aren't spreadbore carbs that I'd reccomend for use on a 225.

I don't think there are spreadbore intakes for the dauntless, either. And I'm not a big fan of adapters...

    unqoute.

I should have been more clear.
I have a edelbrock on my hotrod truck and its great.
But for wheeling I wouldnt, its just not good for angles.
The quadrajet spreadbore is wounderful for wheeling.
    And is my fav.

As said not a bolt on for a 225.

But as I went on to say the stock 2 barrel is very good choice.
Good at an angle and good fit for a 225.

The Avenger is fine I have a buddy with that one.
He's on the fence about it though.

You will find here that most have no complaint about the 2 barrel,
but there are mixed reviews on the 4 barrel's.

    Just food for thought.

The Edelbrock will most likly give you some trouble on the trail. flooding etc.

We could go on forever about if a 4barrel is too big but the spreadbore has those well know small primary's which work well on many motors
