I'm currently rebuilding a buick 231 evenfire and I'm getting pretty close to putting everything back together. The thing is, I don't have a carb. The intake I have on the engine is an edelbrock intake set up for a 4 barrel carb. The thing is, I didn't get a carb with the engine.

The only carb I have is the 2 barrel rochester currently on my 225, should I swap that and make an adapter? Or should I go shopping for a used 4 barrel? Will a stock chevy carb bolt up to this intake or do I need to find an edelbrock carb?

Can you get a square bore intake? Holley 470TA is the way to go, IMHO. Lots of features that are "upgrades" and "mods" on other carbs.

I'm going low budget, I'm a married college student so money is tight right now if you can believe it

I have the edelbrock intake, it came with the engine. I'd prefer to pick up an adapter and a used carb cheap rather than buying new parts.

I've been doing some reading and it looks like this edelbrock intake is made for a 4-barrel square bore carb, so I guess that Holley would built up? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't want a demon of an engine, a bit more power would be nice but I still need this thing to pass emissions when it's done.

I think the Holley's beauty lies not in its performance increase on the Buick, but rather, its excellent capability for tuning a vehicle that is required to perform under a diverse range of operating conditions.

Hmm... seems that I can't find it used those, the lowest I'm seeing is $300+ which is more than I'm spending on the rest of the engine.

Go for a Motorcraft 2100 with a1.08 - 1.14 venturi size. It'll bolt to your 4 bbl manifold without an adapter. Look for Ford A or C code 289/302 application. Of course you could look for a 2G and use an adapter as well.

If you search you may find some threads I posted during my research.

A Motorcraft 2100 2bbl will not bolt to a 4bbl intake without an adapter.

That's what I was thinking... This intake is for a 4 barrel square bore carb. If I'm going to hook up a 2 barrel I'd probably just make an adapter for the Rochester I already have.
