end of the road *images included*

It may be the last my cj5 might see of my driveway. I've been working extremely hard on it to get it fired up and running smoothly only to find 2 cylinders seized in the block. After soaking waiting and torquing the crankshaft with a breaker bar I still cannot spin my 231. I was wondering if a 225 had a bell housing bolt pattern difference from the 231, or how direct of a swap it may be. Otherwise my 5 is going to meet its maker in the scrap yard.

Both have the BOP (Buick, Olds, Pontiac) pattern.

any other differences between the 225 and 231 I should note. I know the 225 has a heavier weighted flywheel I believe.

Isn't there an even-fire and an odd-fire 231? I'd expect the 231 OF flywheel to be the same as the 225's. The EF engine might have a lighter flywheel, since the balance is different.

Just an idea, but there was a recent incident of one CJ dragging another down the street to get the engine to turn over, with happy results (after a while).

maybe thats an option here (after soaking the cyls in marvel mystery oil or diesel for about a week)

IF not, where are you located? maybe a change of scenery would help it...

It's been soaking heavily in marvel and liquid wrench. I know which cylinders are frozen and being that they are about 2/3 of the way into the block it helped build up penetrating oil. After I let it soak I put my scrawny 170lb on a 5 foot breaker bar on the crankshaft bolt. No dice. My aim was to have this thing cruising around in primer by December, but I almost have no hope now. It may be easier and cheaper (obviously cheaper) to just scrap the entire jeep.

If your really done and fed up take some pics and put it in the classifides. You'll get about $250 in scrap, I'm sure some one here will give you that for it. Or walk a way and have a  and locate a new engine post a wanted add. :)

Well I yanked the 231, cylinder wall number 6 has a nice scuff on it. I believe I'll call this engine a boat anchor, and move onto putting another engine in there. I may be too persistent for my own good, but I've always wanted a cj5, and I'll never find one like this one with such a solid frame in connecticut no less.

Have you seen some of the build threads?
Some people on here have started with no more than a frame, some wheels and a half rusted glove box, and turned out some better than factory Jeeps.

Do not scrap the Jeep for any reason, especially motor problems. With the plethora of adapters out there, you can put any kind of engine you want in it. From a f-head to a diesel to a small block V8.

Sounded to me like he was putting another engine in the Jeep. What makes you think he's scrapping it?

The 225 or 239 Dodge Dakota V6 should go in there with the right adapter form Advance Adapters.:):coffee:

would a 4.3 L injected V6 fit? That would be a nice upgrade... you'd need the adapters and take it easy on the drive train... but...???
