    What is the difference between a 10 spline carrier and a 30 spline carrier for a dana 44.

    The journals for the carrier bearings are a different diameter for one. 10 and 19 spline share one bearing and 27 and 30 spline cases share another carrier bearing. The diameter of the hole inside the journal is smaller on the 10/19 spline case where the axle goes through than the 27/30 spline case. Also, the recess where the step on the side gears goes in is smaller on the 10/19 spline case vs. the 27/30 spline case. In other words, you can't put 30 spline side gears in a 19 spline case or vice verse. Powerlock limited slip cases are the exception. you can interchange the side gears in those, but the bearings are different just like the open cases. Nickmil
