    trickpatrick Done? LOL

I seemed to be going from one new problem to the next to get to the driving my baby stage:rofl:

When I bought my jeep it had about 20 psi of oil pressure at best.
it has sat for about 9 months without running.
I have drained the oil and replaced most of all the gaskets.
Including the oilpan ,and the pickup looked good, clean.

    FWIW: 225 v6

Anyway I have been briefly starting it now as part of putting it all back together.
    Was having gas line prob.'s

Got that all fixed and noticed no oil presure.
I have put in a new mech. gauge and line.
Last thing I tried was taking off the line at the block and starting it.
no oil comes out at all.

New filter and full of oil.
I havnt taken off a valve cover to look but it looks dry in the fill and breather holes.
    No tapping or clicking noises.

Could the oil pump be dry?
I didnt take it off or mess with it.

I know about vasaline but didnt think I should need to do that..

If I take it apart can I rebuild it without takeing the timing cover off??

I'm not sure what your problem is.. but you can take the oil pump/gears out without taking the timing cover off. I once put in a high performance oil pump kit in my :v6: a long time ago.

I think I would pull the distrib, the pin that drives the oil pump could be gone or even the distrib may not be down all the way. The oil pump should be able to be rebuilt with removing the timing cover.

How long did you let it run after changing oil and filter? It will take a little time running to fill new filter and oil journals etc. The 20 lbs oil press--- is that at idle hot or reved up?

sounds like it has lost its prime, jasper man told me how to fix it on a engine we installed, let me see if i can rember right, thinking something like 3 psi of air to the crankcase with the oil line/sensor removed coil wire removed and turn the engine over a couple times with the starter, sounds weird but it worked, not absoulty sure about the air psi though i put in 3 psi because i cant rember and dont want you to blow out a gasket or seal, may need more if you cant get a good seal with the air hose, x2 on checking the oilpump shaft and making sure the dist is all the way seated

Not sure why a prime would be lost from sitting. It would literally have to leak out the pump gasket surface to drain the housing.

You can pull the dist and turn the gear shaft with a home-made prime tool. broke flat screw driver or filed off spade bit inserted into a vacuum hose. chuck it up in an electric drill and turn clockwise until you feel the resistance from the oil.

There should be an article around here somewhere.

    Sledgehammer Sure, I'll try it

I just rebuilt mine in the engine swap process and the gasket for the oil pump that came in the kit was much too thin causing the cover to sandwich the gears in the oil pump. They wouldn't spin at all. They were Victor Reinz (sp) gaskets. Just something to be careful of.

It drips out the bolt for the spring on the pump would this drain the oil pump?

Also just brain storming could I take off the filter and squirt oil in the oil filter hole right into the pump?

I would go ahead and use the priming tool - I made mine from a pc of round stock (very easy to do). Pull the distributer and use an electric drill motor. If this works then you're done - easy fix.

If priming doesn't work then I guess you need to pull the pump & check it out.

Regarding your question about pulling the filter and putting oil in the hole. I've never tried that or even heard of anyone trying it. But I guess it wouldn't hurt anything right? More brainstorming - if something was wrong with your filter (plugged, valve stuck, other) that might cause this problem? Try a new one.

I don't think it would work due to the check valve but maybe. If you have a remote cooler adapter, you remove one line (cant remember which) and place it in a jar of oil. I haven't tried this one yet but saw it on the GN forum.

I agree, re priming is easy and it will determine the next coarse of action, or none at all. Start with the basics and then move on to more complex and expensive actions.

Thought I'd post a little followup.

    Pulled the dissy.

tryed the drill and screwdriver trick.
had pulled out the oil line and fitting to make sure it wasnt plugged.
    Shot oil out everywhere..
    All over my new D30:evil:
    So the pump works.
Cool thing I guess was the oil pump was full of old oil and I purged this out.:)

So I guess the dissy wasnt turning it.
    Reinstalled the dissy correctly.
Now when running, could see oil coming up the plastic line to the fire wall.

    Still no reading.

Figured the pump was bad or bigger problem.

Just for giggles I decided to bleed the air out of the line.

guess what the compression fitting on the back of the guage had went in crooked and was pinched...

So Dissy not in right, and pinched line.

Getting new compression fitting tomarrow to try.
