Numbers match cj-5 newbie

Just picked up a 1960 cj-5 mint condition.Model number is a 57548 and the number on the front of the drivers
side frame looks like 425L and the number on the lower passenger side of the block is SD 807895 11A. Also is this A 4-134 or a 4-150.Igot a super deal on this thing. I think im going to enjoy the feedback i receive from everyone.Need to know if the numbers are matching. THANX to any body that can give me info ??

 

AFAIK there's no such thing as matching numbers on a CJ-5. On later models, you can roughly match the production dates, but on early models, I think there's even less correspondence between the VIN and the engine numbers. If you find the right number, the chassis number should match the sequential (last) part of the VIN.

Why do you think it's a 150? Only the F134 was available in 1960. The 150 is an '80s engine. Post a picture of under the hood for confirmation.

Thanx Jim. I got my work cut out for me learning about older jeeps.The reason is should i custom this thing
and possibly lose value of originality or leave stock.

 

I would not cut up or lift that rig. It is a truly rare, mostly stock cj. There is plenty of jeeps you can customize to your hearts content.

Nice, very clean stock cj. It's rare to find one in what appears to be that good of shape.

Been to numerous web sites.Model number is 57548 1960 CJ-5.Found motor number on block, 4J 262762 can
this be original motor.Cant find the numbers matching on any sites, May be i dont get the number order?

That is a fine looking jeep. I've got a '61 that is almost as nice. I wish my paint was as nice, although same color.I wouldn't change a thing other than basic maintenance items. I even kept brakes original. Nice rig.

 

Maybe the OP doesn't realize what matching numbers usually means? As I understand it, there were some cars (muscle cars, Corvettes, likely others) where the serial number on the chassis match the serial number on the engine. This matters a lot for these cars, since collectors most want cars that have their original engines.

On a Jeep, the numbers on the engine simply don't match the chassis - ever. Pretty sure these engines don't have a serial number of any kind. The numbers indicate what type of engine it is (ie displacement and compression ratio), but do not uniquely identify that engine.

Kinda wordy, but I'm trying to make it clear.

Very clean suprisingly straight jeep you have there,great true color also.Fine indeed.
I'm sure in due short time you will see a greater appreciation for its mere obvious "AMBIENCE" than just its mere timeless stock breed fashion that can "DO ALL"!
Stock older jeeps seem to start calling out to there new owners, what is best for them rather than what you think at the time pre decided is, best for it.
They seem to have a nact for finding appreciative new owners that care about there individual well being and longevity moreso than there common hidden unleashed talent that they all have within...
I suggest your next jeep after you realize that this one is very special is to; start looking for a nice in-expensive project jeep that is a solid good starting platform but one that may also allready have some good off road essential drive parts and build that one up for on/off road fun and for this "little red" one just treasure it and just relax because it will allways be your friend.
