Evening. In my 62' CJ-5 I have a Dana 44, 19 tooth, tapered shaft w/ powerlock. Seems a previous owner lost the spacers that properly adjust the axle bearings. Just invested in new hubs, bearings and axle shafts.
So, I have a question. Do I hunt for new spacers? Do I upgrade to a flanged axle? Do I upgrade to a full floating axle? And how about a free rolling kit for towing?
Warn discontinued their full floating kit with hublock, three years ago. (I am told) Does anybody else make one? Do the hublocks hold up?
Kids are grown so daddy finally got to buy his toys! So the plan is to play in the woods for a couple years. Then do a full restore. I am thinking original. (or as close as possible) I guess the question is, do I spend major bucks now and build a killer axle. Or peice together what I have?

May be cheaper to put together your axle but if you really want a Full Floating axle now would be the time to do it. The WARN ZA bodied hubs hold up fine with 33" tires or less. Some of the others do not. I'd suggest using studs and self-locking nuts to hold the hubs on if you go this route to keep them from loosening up. Drive flanges are strong too. Herm Tilford (ATV Manufacturing) builds a kit for the offset 19 spline axle. Do a search for Hermtheoverdriveguy.

Talk to Scott Milliner if you are considering 30 spline axle conversion. He has some interesting "insight" as to the problems one may run into doing this.

I'd run what you already have.
PM me if you need the spacers/buttons.

X2 on the bolded part. With lockout hubs and bolts mine was constantly shaking bolts loose and breaking them off. Even with Locktite and star washers.
I got real good with E-Z Outs though.

Herm also has kits now for 30 spline FF kits that open a whole new world for lockers.

ZA is an alloy Warn makes the later revision of the external bodied hub for Jeeps out of. It's powdercoated kind of a light to medium gray and are definitely heavier and stronger than earlier versions. They are dimensionally the same but when you hold the body's next to each other you can feel the weight and density difference.
