I need to make a power steering pump bracket for a 74 CJ-5 with a 258. Could someone take some pictures of their mount so I can get an idea of what to make. Other pictures I've seen don't show much. I have the piece that goes on the pump itself, but need the one that mounts to the block.

    Thanks.

Pretty sure that's not the right setup for a '74, but instead for a later model. IIRC the '74 has the pump on the passenger side.

Note there are a few different configurations for the 258 with power steering. In the past, this has caused headaches for people that have tried to convert their Jeeps to power steering and have not taken all the brackets and pulleys from the donor vehicle.

Here are a couple of pictures from my pickup - it's a similar setup:

This is the bracket that attaches to the head and installed on my 258. Alternator on driver side of engine and ps pump on pass side of engine. I have more pics if needed.

Can he use the equipment off a passenger car of the same era? Finding an entire setup off of a CJ seems harder to do anymore. And J&W isn't cheap.

I would think so, though I've never seen it.

You should be able to use the everything off of a later 258 Jeep too ... the 258 was used through 1990 in the Wrangler. I know the crank snout length is different for the 4.0L, but you can put a 258 crank into a 4.0L using a spacer of some kind, so that might be another source for parts.

    Thanks guys.

The alternator is on the driver's side and set up like Dave74's (Thanks for the pics David!) I have looked around at the local JY's for mounts, and the cars and/or Jeeps I find with the 258 mysteriously have these parts missing. So now I will make them.

Thanks again guys. I appreciate the help.
