What would cause the trans to lock up between 2nd and 3rd gear when shifting?. I pulled the cover off and everything looks okay, and i drained the oil, to find the drain magnet covered in in fine metal shavings and chunks of plastic/nylon?, in the sludge. The previous owner cured the problem by removing the cover and moving something around, what, he didn't indulge.
Done some research and found nothing about locking gears or plastic parts in the trans. Looking to rebuild anyways, just trying to pinpoint the problem
    Thanks in advance

I've had my T-15 jam in second before I rebuilt it. Found the slider(B) was getting jammed up because the synchro rings(A) were worn out and the plates(F) were popping up between the synchro rings and getting cocked jamming the slider. The quick fix out in the field was to pull the cover off push the plates back into position to get it unjammed them put the cover back on, it did this to me twice before I rebuilt the transmission.

Sounds like you have a shift dog (F in diagram) falling due to a slipped or broken spring (D in diagram) on your 2-3 syncro (E or front oneas it sits in jeep). They are hard to see when its all together. When you rebuild pay extra special attention to these as you're putting it back together. It's a pretty wimpy spring and is prone to moving during assembly. If it comes off it necessitates disassembly.:v6:

Would it be better to take everything out now so i know what is broken, or should i wait until i get my rebuild kit. Still deciding on who to get my kit from, but definatly rebuilding the trans

You can, but a T14 doesn't hide much. I would suggest getting your kit from Herm. He provides top quality parts and great tech assistance. He was invaluable to me during my rebuild.:v6:

I'll second Herm, he rebuilt both my T-14 & Dana 18. I can not say enough good things about him.
