I am at a lost. I have been looking all over for a flywheel for my 231, and cannot seem to find one. All of the local auto part stores offer a flywheel with either 153 teeth(which fits the 10.4 inch clutch) or 168 teeth. In my readings it says that I need 160 teeth for the fly wheel. The only place I have found offering the 160 tooth flywheel is centerforce. If anyone has found one and has the part number, or if the above mentioned will work. Please let me know.

Yeah I have seen those, I was hoping not to have to fork out that kind of dough on that, but it looks like I am not going to have any other option.

From what I've seen, there are two general types of replacement flywheel: cast and billet. The billet flywheels are expensive (and more explosion proof, supposedly), but the cast flywheels are what the OEMs used and should be around $100.

Re specifically needing a 160 tooth flywheel, I expect there is a lot of interchangeability between these parts - I'd guess that you could use a 350 starter, for example, with its matching flywheel. You need to match the pitch of the starter gear with the tooth count of the flywheel, the diameter has to match, and you have to balance the flywheel for the engine.

If it's an odd fire, you should be able to find a 225 flywheel and use a 225 starter too, I'd think. An even fire is likely different, but the 225 flywheel could be rebalanced to the engine.

So maybe you can put together a collection of parts that will work without having to buy the expensive billet 160 tooth flywheel. You'd need to research what would work though.

x2. I'd convert it over to 168 tooth; ring gear and starters waaay easier to find, especially if you're in a pinch further down the road someday.
