Can the front housing on an earlier twin stick 18 (build tag says 1948) fit the later single stick 18 I have (tagged 1966)?

If so, what needs to be done to use it?

Yes, you just need to use the Hi- lo shift rod from the earlier case.

looks like both shift rods are different......

any ideas on removing the hi/low shift rod?

The other shift rod should still be in the shifter housing you are planning on installing. To remove the high low rod from the fork you have to unscrew the set screw on the shift arm. It's a lot easier if you just remove all the guts from the output side of the case.

    nickmil In mothballs.

You need both shift rails, housing, sticks, pivot pin, anti rattle clips, and knobs. Everything else interchanges including the shift forks. Nickmil.
