Hey guys, its time to work on the cooling system. This 62' CJ5 has a bizarre radiator in it. Looks to me like the shroud is missing from the grill. With this V8 in there, Would the grill and radiator out of say a 76-78' fit? As you can see the radiator is not mounted very well. Quite ridiculous actually.

Right now the rad is mounted to angle iron that is welded to the frame. It has broke twice on me on the trail. I think I need to get it off the twisting of the frame.

The later grill will fit the fenders and hood. You might need to remove the safety release from the new grill. BTW love those valve covers

What Khamill said. You also may need to modify the crossmember for radiator clearance and beef up that area.

I used a '73 grille in the 71. Used angle iron to mount the rad, but the anglle iron was a 2 piece arrangement per side. One piece bolted to the grille, one piece bolted to the rad, then the 2 pieces of angle were bolted together. This allowed a huge amount of room in front of the V6, and the rad wasn't even tucked into the cutout in the grille (it was set back to avoid contact with the crossmember)
Using a later grille and rad should work well for you but as mentioned watch where the new grille puts the rad in relation to the ECJ5 crossmember, and watch the bottom mount for the new grille, location is different (I added a plate between the rails to stiffen the front frame and give the '73 rad a place to mount on the bottom... I cut the ECJ5 bottom grille mount off.
IIRC all CJ grilles are the same 72 up, with the exception of minor changes in turn signal openings.
