leaf spring question

Guys i got an idea to get more flex. On my rear springs the outer wrap for the springs is gone. So the springs flex apart. Can i take the outer wrap off the front springs also to gain a little more spring flex?

 

never tried it with cj5 springs but sometimes the leaves will walk around alittle and kind of fan out like you were holding playing cards . your shocks would be your limiter .are the straps bend around the pack or do they just have a through bolt --then it would be easy to try it out. you know I was thinking .......if you take them off the front of the pack the pinion would twist up not a good idea there..... but i think the back is ok.
