On a generator system you will connect that wire to the voltage regulator. It is normally indicated by the letter "I" or IGN. Your 70 model should have an alternator system? Does it and if so is it Prestolite Autolite Delco Motorola or other?

I would temporarily connect the indicator wire to the term on the reg that has the wire going to the ARM on the gen. and try it. If your reg is a three term unit and the gen has a raised band around the middle then it is a prestolite. Delco gens are straight barrel. Any way you wont burn anything up by trying this connection.
