I pulled the top from the T-90 in my 64 and found what looks like one of the brass blocking rings in several pieces in the bottom of the case. PO swore the trans was working and shifting fine when he last ran it. The Jeep was not running when purchased so I ask what will be the symptoms of a broken blocking ring if I run it as is or is that just a bad idea all around.

    yep, bad idea
it needs to be fixed..in my opinion
pull the trans and do it right
maybe the ring wasn't positioned over the shift dogs properly....
or some other problem that's lurking around the corner

Jim's right - you really need to take it apart to see what's what. Take careful notes when you take it apart and mark everything with what it's next to and the direction. Use your camera too, if you are so inclined.

Realize that, once you go to put it together, you need to know which side was in and which side was out on many of the components. Pay close attention to this when you take it apart, and mark everything.

The rebuild can be done and when you finish you will think your a rocket surgeon.
    This site helped a lot.

There was also a $5 video by the same person who did this site. I had it when I did my T90 and it really helped.

Brent Mullens Jeep Parts and Pete Debella had NOS U.S. made blocking rings at one time. They are very different from the offshore copies.

Let us know how it goes.
