I am finalizing my 401 build and want to know if there is a hardware kit that replaces all the bolts, washers, nuts, etc?

If not.... is there a manual or source that outlines all the specific bolts needed?

I'd check a place like summit racing, they should be able to supply you with a hardware kit.

they offer head stud/bolt kits, oil pan kits, Intake bolts, header bolts.

of course byt the time you order all that stuff you'll ahve another $5-700 into the motor.

Is this for function or for appearance?

I would not replace head/rod/main cap bolts on an AMC V8 build. If you had your rods rebuilt, they should have replaced the rod bolts. I believe you cannot replace the rod bolts without reconditioning the rods, since new bolts will cahnge the cap alignment. You can probably buy a head bolt set, but I think it's a bit excessive unless you ar building a performance engine (and for a 401, this means well over 500 hp which would be a handful in a CJ chassis).

You could replace all the external bolts with stainless - there's likely a kit for that.

Sorry for the lack of clarification. The internals are all done .... no problem. The external bolts are the ones I am talking about. I like stainless, and where can I find a kit for them. Summit does not have them. When I bought the engine all the externals were stripped off.... timing cover, alt, PS pump, H2O pump.etc. Not all the bolts are there so I don't even have the sizes for each....

I bought my stainless hardware kit from 4 Wheel Drive Hardware catalog. I don't remember the price but it covered all the external needs, intake, water pump, valve covers and fuel pump etc. It covered all the AMC V8's.

    I like these guys better...difference is grade 2 @ 4WD and grade 8 @ TotallyStainless. I think that makes a difference.

Thanks for the links for the kit. I contacted totally stainless.... very nice people. They say you don't need the grade 8 for the engine kit, but you can get the 6 point or 12 point grade 8 for $189... ouch! I also ordered the bell housing bolts, carb bolts, and the starter bolts. BTW your link to them was an 07 catalog and price has gone up a couple $.

Here is the new link to AMC calalog page.
