I found a set of running board steps. Are they worth keeping? I think the original owner took them off when he got the jeep, and they have been hanging in the barn ever since. I don't know if I will ever put them on my jeep, as they look like they would hang in the way.... Just wish I would have found a spare overdrive unit in there too!

The early steps? They have some value today ... not a lot, but some. Not many good ones are around now. If they were left on the Jeep, they get bashed badly. Most new owners took them off and threw them away.

They are something of a restoration/parade Jeep item though. If you drive on trails much more challenging than rutted dirt roads, they will get smashed.

Mine were pristine when I bought my Jeep. They weren't on it of course. I bought the Jeep from the second owner, who bought it in 1968. He took the steps off when he bought it.

They are collectable enough that some guys are passing off after-market as original when they can. They come up on ebay frequently and don't last long so there is an interest out there. I love the ones I have and since I don't off-road the Tux wildly, mine are in pristine condition as well. I bought them from a member here that had them tucked away in his barn. Sure glad he saved them for me. :)

That was one of the first things I took off in 71 when I bought mine. I could never see why Jeep would put something like on a jeep. However now that I have reached 63 years, I think there pretty neat to have and now know why jeep offered themR).R)

Wait till you have a bad leg/hip and getting in and out is difficult.

I put after market steps on my '60 and now getting in and out isn't that hard any more.

Lowering the jeep also helped a lot!
