    ok so I got a vintage jeep cj5. It have a stock v-6 and I know so because the body has the v6 emblem on it. I just bead blasted the tail gate and it has the american motors emblem on it. I looked up me serial number and its sayes it would be a 1959 Iv done meny restores of jeeps, but this one got me confused to what year it might be. The fuel fill is in the aft pass side not recessed, its fluss mounted, no original door hindge points, hindge mounted windshield. The serial number is 830xx. The ebrake is mounted on the driveshaft can anyone please help me thank you

    It sounds like a FrankenJeep. Does it have the psudobattery box on the cowl?
    It could be a replacement tailgate from a junkyard after the old one rusted out. And the fill sounds like it might have been owner added.

    Or I could be completely wrong.

    V6 didn't start until '65 as a '66 model year option. Buick didn't make a V6 until 1962(IIRC) so it's not possible that any were made in '59. :)

    Sounds like a '70-'71 to me with the fuel filler location and AMC badge. Tubs can be swapped of course so a frame VIN is the only way to verify 100%.

    83 = Universal CJ5

    05 = Open body

    0 = Universal (disregard)

    1 = Left hand drive

    7 = V6 - 225 w/ emissions

    I wish the Jeep owners of the world had a better VIN # database.

    When I was a teenager I owned a '67 Mustang GT. There is alot
    of VIN information and databases on Mustangs.

    What else do you want? You pretty much described the VIN except for nailing down the month it was made (which can be done). Jeep didn't include much information in the VIN so there isn't "alot" of information to go with.

    I think that he means that the Jeep code itself is lacking. Other vehicle vin numbers tell a lot more, practically the time of day it rolled off the assembly line. I don't think that he was complaining about the database that you have compiled.

    MORE MORE MORE!R)

    Yeah, was just wishing they had originally given more info on the VINs.

    Codes for the following would have been nice:

    1) Transmission
    2) Axle(s)
    3) Plant where produced (just cause I'm curious)

    My consecutive# on my CJ6 is 32192. How can I figure out what
    year it is. All the databases I have seen do not go up to '67.

    Can you show me where you can find that information? I have
    looked all over the 'net and have not found a definitive list.

    Thanks you for putting the .PDF together. I used it when I first got my VIN
    info on my Jeep last week.

    I will post up my info like others are doing in that thread.
