Look what I came across today! I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this style of winch on a cj5? I do not have a pto as of yet, but might be able to score this winch for next to nothing. Is it worth the effort? Its a Koenig and is on a chevy pickup.

Hard to tell anything about the pictures, they are so small. Put your pictures up at photobucket.com and then link them here.

I have one on my 1960, it is mounted on the rear. I love that winch it is an OX, only draw back is the break on them; most are broken off so the is no hold the load option, when sliding clutch is disingaged and drum is free to spool and if there not broken it is a manual break at that, if you do get the winch get the PTO assembly also, they are had to find. but you may be able to adapt a hydrolic motor to it and drive it that way,
they are easy to get parts for call Herm the overdrive guy he has a complete selection.

I've had mine over 25 years, always worked flawlessly unless you forget to disengage the drive and try to wind the front bumper into it.

Most everybody I wheel with Hve electric winches.
If we come across a situation whee we have to help someone else out, they all turn, 'En masse' to look at me.
    "What, you don't have winches"?
"Yeah, but you have a PTO"
If you have it, it will get used.

Had mine for over 40 years and would never come close to replacing it with a electric one. I love it. But remember what was said above, be carefull as they will pull your Jeep into parts if you don't pay attentions to what your doing. :)

Here is some info on it.

Great winch. Agree with all the above, a PTO winch will move anything that is "loose at both ends." I mashed bumpers, and even bent Jeep frames, before I learned to always take the time to "do it right" every time.

Careful cable management is important with so much power to do damage. One way the clutch/brake handles get busted is when a loose wrap of cable gets around them and then is wound in.
