Just got home with this 71' A little rougher than I hoped so I got it cheap.

All I know is Dana 18's and T90's. What are these? I can tell they are not OE.

There's about a 1/4" gap between the transfercase and transmission.

Not a bronco 20, does appear to be a t18 though. Pressure wash that nasty thing and find the tag...

Can I bolt my d18 to the back of this?

Depending on what that Tcase really is... If it's a D20 you can put a big hole D18 or swap the guts to the D20 case and it will work.

It's got the fill plug on the side. We are going to need you to hose that thing down and take pics of the front where the Front D shaft is to help.

The more I look at it... Is it possibly a D300? (not able to spot those some times as I just don't mess with them)

The D300 dosnt have a lump on the top part of the case, its smooth like the D18/D20 cases. Also the output housing is different on the 300....

that's not a standard D20 rear output. Its extremely short. Maybe its a one off custom short shaft.

The fill plugs are in the right spots for a D20, but they usually dont have both the side and rear fill.

Time to get under there with a wire brush and some simple green cleaner.

I'm leaning toward the D21 myself. Does anybody see any shifter linkage? I'll look for a data plate up top there. Wow I found a goldmine. I could weld some chain to it and drag it behind me on those steep down hills.

only problem is that the broncos are all drivers side drop, and this mystery case is not.

that link shows the front of the case, while the pic of the mystery case shows the back.

also note that if it is a d21, the D21 it appears to have a round bolt pattern, not the "texas" pattern of the D20/18.

If it is a d21, then it should be easy to determine due to the lack of a low range option.

If I look at the pic I posted it appears that the one pictured fron noflyzone has maybe been turned upside down ie flipped to make it p side front output. I don't know of any other application that ran the d21 other than the fords. I guess if all you did was a little driving around the farm and filled it with plenty of oil it would probably work for a while.

Odd.....It looks like there is an adapter in there to go to the round pattern on the d21 in the third picture. Did the t18 tranny have the countershaft lower bearing retainer like the sm420/sm465?

"The NP435 in an F-100 with a Dana 21 transfer case is a 2WD unit. To convert to a married NP205 you'll need to get an NP435 from a 4x4 F250 which matches your bellhousing, or at least change the 2WD NP435's 10-spline output shaft to the 4WD NP435's 31-spline output shaft. "

Some interesting reading. This is off the fordification web site.

That's what didn't look right. My T18 does not have that.
