I can't make that decision for you. It's up to you. All I can do is give you the information about what the factory did, which is what I thought you wanted.

Black makes a nice contrast to the body color, and is easily touched up.

Yep the black looks good and I am going with the high gloss vice semi-gloss.

Do y'all paint it with the glass in (if so, how do you do that?) or do you take the glass out?

I just got done painting the daughter's w/s frame. Glass in, all other parts removed. I used painters tape and very carefully masked the outside of the seal with tape then covered the glass with masking paper. Came out pretty good. I've done several this way and they seem to hold up pretty well. if you want truly professional results then the glass should be removed.

Because the glass comes out and goes back in so easily I vote for taking the glass out to paint. That's what I did.

I used body color but would have used black if I had a known it was normal.

I agree. I just took the Koenig hard top of mine for what appears to be the first time since 1957, and the paint under the wrap-around door shrouds is a VERY shiny high gloss. I like it.

A painter's trick is to use small cord just under the rubber seal lifting the rubber up. It usually lifts it up just enough to paint slightly under the rubber. Pull the cord out after the paint is dry and the rubber covers the paint slightly.
