I have an 83 cj7 with a t5 tranny. Bolted to a fresh 304. My t5 took it's usual dump on me today. I am looking for an upgrade. I want to know how easy of a swap it is. I have found a t18 tranny mated to a t18 transfer case from a jeep. Is that right? Is this goint to be an easy swap?

More details about the Jeep T-18 please.

The T-18 was never offered with the Dana 18 transfer case in a Jeep. If the T-18 was mated with a Dana 20 (typical), it is not compatible with your current Dana 300 transfer case. If you want to keep the Dana 300, you'd be better off finding a Ford T-18 and a conversion kit. The NP435 transmission is another option.

You realize that you will lose the overdrive gear with a T-18 or NP435? All the truck 4-speeds have a 1:1 final drive ratio.

If the T18 has a 20 behind it your can run it that way since its centered but the 18 is offset and will not work with your centered rear end. Also if the T18 has the long input shaft, it depends what it came out of, it will not work with your T5 bell housing.
