Just trying to figure out what mirror heads where used on the eCJ5, square or round. I've seen both. Mine is a 67 and has square but they are after-market.

Pretty sure round until Intermediate era. Then they used rectangular mirrors with the mounting peg in the center and an "X" embossed in the steel cup. Last version of the CJ are the rectangular with the mounting peg offset toward the bottom.

Thanks for the info, mine do have the peg at the bottom. Are the arms different to then?

There should be nothing square on a JEEP.:)

I'm debating on keeping the square mirrors just for this reason. I want to keep it original looking, but I also want good function as well for trails.

I know you can get them at quadratec.com and 4wd.com but they are not of very good quality. The last set I bought for my 75 from 4 wheel hardware had plastic adjustment pegs and broke the first time I needed to adjust them.:(

My 69 didn't have mirrors, so I bought the rectangle ones, and they are cheaply made, they always drop out of position when you get over 50 mph.

dohc281 It is what it is.

I bought round ones from Walcks and they are of good quality, except I can't see out of them and think I might replace them with square ones.

You can try to find aftermarket mirror heads that look close to what Jeep used. The intermediates certainly had the black rectangular heads, though I thought that round mirror disappeared sometime in the 60s. As mentioned, the 4-5" round mirrors are fairly useless except for conforming to traffic laws.

This Grote rectangular mirror looks close, and likely would not shake any more than the originals http://grote.com/product.php?product_number=28051

My 71 had the rectangular mirrors from the factory. They were in horrible shape so I replaced them with some from a very good 76 model.
