I once saw on Ebay a plate to block off the heater openings on the firewall if there was no heater installed. It looked OEM. I just made one yesterday afternoon as my heater is out for "rehab". It may not go back in as it is sure easier to work on the driver side engine/wiring/steering box/master cylinder without it in there. Plus, here in Hawaii, they are not really needed.

Was wondering if anyone had one of those oem plates, I would like to see a pic to see how close mine came out.

I think I might have one of those plates. When I bought my jeep most of it was either in a huge tupperware bin or piled in the back in place of a seat. I do not have a digital camera, but I can describe it for you. It is 10.75" x 10.88." It seems to be about 1/16" thick. There is a sticker on it that says Hoffman. I think this might be for what you are talking about. I am missing my heater control unit on mine and there is what looks to be an old metal Shlitz sign blocking mine. Hope this might help.

Greg, I inherited one of those plates from the '64 tux, and I'll snap a pic of it for you tomorrow. I've since replaced the hole with a complete heater unit, but I retained the plate for no apparent reason, lol.

AARGH! Just gave one to the scrap guy. I had it around for years and no one wanted it, couldn't give it away. Even posted it on here once and the one guy who wanted it never came through on cost for postage.
    That's definitely the one. Nickmil.

I sold the plate on ebay. It came from a 66 jeep that had a four speed in it. I parted it all out and kept the engine only.

I coudn't figure out why anyone would want one, so in the listing I listed a use for it as a potential ash tray - but I also figured that anyone who wanted one would be overjoyed to get one so I listed it. It sold.

They are actually more common than you might think. Since then I have had the opportunity to buy a few of them but didn't. If I come across another one I'll post it on this site.

Here's a pic of the plate that came on the '64:
(It's available if anyone needs it, BTW).

Tried to reply earlier but I guess it didn't take. Sometimes late at night (my time) I can't get on, it says the server is busy?

Mike, the one I saw on Ebay way back when looked just like yours, I remember it was "embossed" not just flat. (I thought I was the only one who thought the "real tomatoe ketchup" was hilarious... the "I bet you could use a cold one" was even better though)

I kinda wish I had brought this up long ago, I had no idea they were somewhat common. Now that I have made one that does what it should, I will be reluctant to spend money on an original.

Thanks for all the replies--y'all are awesome.
