Does anyone have rear hoop on their rollbar, that can take a height measurement for me? I want to put in a rear hoop for back seat passenger protection, but I also want to be able to use the full soft top too. All I need is a measurement from the rear floor to the bottom of the hoop. Also what is the recommended thickness? .090, .125 ? I know CJ joe has one in his, and I would like to copy that style. Joe you listening? :D

Yeah I'm refrring to the one that goes from driver side over to passenger side, like the main hoop. I was thinking I could probably get away with copying the dimentions of the main hoop for the rear one.

Uhh...I'd make sure that whoever gets you the measurement is running the soft top you expect to use. I think the Supertops, for example, have more slope to the rear window than the tigertops do.

John, can't you put the top on and measure how much space you have? That was my plan.

I didn't want to have to put the rollbar back in to do it, then take it back out and then put it back in. Take to many chances scratching the paint on the trailer queen. R)

Good point Mike. I am running the Tiger Top, but if I make it to fit the Super Top, then more than likely it will fit the TT as well.

Well I guess i'll go stop by the muffler shop on the way to work and see how thick a tube he can bend. Then I will stop by the steel yard and pick up some 2" tubing. I figure at least .090. Tomorrow i'll go back to the moofler shop and have it bent with the upright sections a little long, so I can cut to fit for height later. HMMM Gee I wonder if I can fit a 10 foot piece of 2" tubing in my Geo.

I don't think the muff shop is going to be able to bend any pipe strong enough to use as a roll bar. But...I might be wrong.

I'm basing that on once when I was going to have them bend some stainless pipe to use as exhaust pipe on my bro's Grand National.

If they couldn't bend that then surely they can't bend something like roll bar pipe.

Personally I would use .120 wall tubing to keep it the same as the rest of the cage. Also I think that the exhaust guys bender will kink the tube, especially on the sharp downward bends. I would try to locate a race shop or someone with a tubing bender, instead of a pipe bender.

Just a thought, how about the front hoop kit that Kentrol sells through 4wd?
It should be plenty long, and the tube is the right dia.
I was going to try this myself, but hey I'll let you try it 1st.

Well I bought 2 x .120 wall. The only other thickness they had was .060 (way to thin). I stopped by the muff shop and he said he could try it, but he wasn't sure it would work. I figure the thicker wall is less likely to kink also. He has a pretty good size hydraulic mandrel bender. I would hate to kink the tubing and ruin it, since it cost almost $60 for it. I don't know if there is any race shops in my area (since there's no where to race anymore out here). I'll have to let my fingers do the walking.

I know you already bought the tubing but what about cutting the mounting base off another rollbar and using that? Kinda hard to explain but basically the main hoop would be at the rear and the rest trimmed to fit the angle of the current roll bar.

If a muffler shop can't bend it, try an electrical shop that bends conduit. Dunno? Or you can buy the bends you need from the steel supply and weld them to straight peices, thats what I usually do.

Joe, I don't have another roll bar to take from, and I really don't have time to spend trying to find one. I might also try renting a bender if the muff shop can't do it. This is #2 on my list for tomorrow. First is painting my W/S frame and some other misc. parts. A guy I work with hooked me up with a new windshield for $65. He does installs as a side job. ;)

Dually that is a thought I had as well. If I can't find a bender local I might go that route. I assume ( I know that's dangerous) that they make pre bent 90's in tubing to match the other tubing. I don't really want to use pipe since it's a different diameter.

As stated above, I don't think a muffler shop can bend that, and if you want to protect the back seat drivers, then go with the .120 or bigger. If you don't know any race shops call up the Orange Show or Perris, and get some racers involved, somebody could probably bend it for you for a 6 pack of beer.

ps...I used to live in the, "Inland Smog Empire"

Boy did I make a mistake. I can't find anybody with a 2" die to bend this tubing. Guess I shoulds went with 1 1/2". Everyone has dies for that size. Oh well story of my life.
