i searched, i read, and i am stumped. my carb has set for a few years, when i put it on the jeep a couple days ago it leaked a little fuel out of the bottom and quit leaking. figured just something dried out. started it up and it ran reasonable for about 30 to 45 minutes. then it went to loading up really bad. i took it apart and bugs had nested in it. one piece of a bug lodged in the needle & seat. so i figure well thats the problem. put the top back on and fired it up again, no luck took it back off and dismanteled the whole carb and soaked it in carb cleaner. then sprayed out the jets, everything seemed clean and in order. put it back together, no luck. i did find a pinhole in the float, drained the fluid out of it and solidered it up till i can get a new one. so just what could be causing this. i mean for it to go from running reasonable to crap in a split second, something had to give in there. would a bad accelerator pump diaphram cause it to flood like mad? it acts like the main jet is screwed up, but the only thing i did there was clean it. and i dont see how it could get out of adjustment by its self:? ive got a solex on the way, but if i can save the carter i would like to

If your carb has sat that long its likely that the pump diaphragm is leaking. When they leak the fuel dumps right into the manifold.
The carter can be saved, keep it for a spare if nothing else.

couldnt really see deep down in the carb, but fuel was spitting out of the mainjet, spurt spurt spurt. the metering rod setup is kinda screwey on these as well, i thought maybe it was put together wrong, but from a exploaded view its put together correct, oh well guess i will need a rebuild kit. more than likley its the pump diaphram, that would explain why it went to crap all of a sudden, thanks brian p
