    I'm replacing my crossmember.

The original crossmember was not only bolted to the frame, but it was also riveted in 4 places (top and bottom @ each frame rail) and it was welded (also top and bottom).

Do I need to weld the crossmember back to the frame?

I was hoping to just bolt it in case I ever needed to remove it again but...well...they welded it there for a reason and I don't want it to fall off.

If I was doing mine I'd weld it too. I tend to think it would help with the frame alignment as far as keeping it square.

I tend to weld cross members - unless they are used to drop things (like the tranny and tcase). When I redo the front for Saginaw I use 2" sq tubing and box the ends.
