fuel tank

i can not seem to find anyone that has the poly or even steel fuel tanks to go beneath my jeep. i am keeping my underseat tank as an aux tank, but i want the bigger tank in the rear. any idea where i can find one? i have tried jcwhitney.jegs,4wd,summit,4wheelparts,quadratec,etc

 

did you have to d any mods to get the late cj tank in? is that in your 6 or your 5 that you had

4wheeldrive has them in the vintage catalog, #7075 for $199.95. There on page 16.
You can also get a 21 gallon unit, #0050XL for $219.95. These are both rear mount tanks and use the factory skid plate.

 

i did not think we had fuel tanks back there untill after 70, how could it use a skid plate i dont have?

 

Most 1970 model Jeeps used rear mounted tanks, there were only a small % that had the underseat tank. You'll need to get a skid plate to cover it and hold it in place.

 

ok, thats fine i am lookign at the 15 gallon one right now. it says that it uses the factory hardware to mount, what will i need to mount htis since i dont have the hardware

 

i would not sugest the 21gal tank. just because all the ones i have ever seen hang down so far they people just drag the skidplate over most obsticals, which takes traction off the rear tires.

 

yeah i was lookign at that, if i do this it will be the 15 gal one

 

future upgrade on mine is the rear tank. plan on mounting the skid plate to angle iron welded to the frame. also if yours has the rear "K" frame, it will need to be removed. order a tank from a 1978 (cj5 or 7 doesn't matter which) as some parts (mostly the pipe connecting the filler neck to the tank are imposible to find).
