overdrive D18 noises

    I have one that when we took it apart (part of a purchase) it looked like dust they were so fine. Planitaries were just a ground mess...

    I checked this moring before work and the silver flakes (dust) is magnetic.

    Chuck, was the planitaries themself worn or is there roller bearings in there that were gone? what type of inspection do you do is it visual?

    They both can wear. Should have a tight fit in the cage and the gears should look clean and sharp. If you 'think' you have an issue, call Herm. He can walk you through a quick look and tell you exactly what to look for based on what your seeing. I rebuild the minor things, others requireing the press/jig I send to him to do for me.

    Forgot to mention - look for discoloration - heat issues from lack of oil as well.
